Costa Rica Rainforest Adventures Wins Accolades for Treading Lightly

OTTAWA, Dec. 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- While numerous theme park operators worldwide move toward more sustainable practices – from pilot solar power projects to a few electric vehicles and LED lighting – could the most sustainable theme parks in the world currently be the Rainforest Adventures parks in Costa Rica? According to the Rainforest Alliance, Earth University and Costa Rican Tourism Institute, these two parks are the model for best practices in the world when it comes to sustainable development and operations.

While the two nature parks offer fun things to do in Costa Rica on both coasts like aerial trams, ziplining, butterfly gardens and Costa Rica jungle hikes and treks, the focus of management has always been on sustainability to ensure the conservation of the environment they operate in.

Donating My Hair

I have decided that now is the best time in my life to cut and donate all my hair. I have had long hair for almost 18 years and it is time to make a change. It is time for me to change the lives of a couple little girls, while changing the life of myself. I have children myself, and feel blessed to have long hair that will grow back.

Change comes in many forms. Some people go shopping, some people move away to new places and try new things, while others do selfless acts to make a change for themselves but it comes from within.

I recently had a scare and was being tested for cancer. I feel like since getting the blessed news that I am cancer free, (amen) that I need to help those who have not been as blessed. I want to cut off all of my 30 plus inches of hair, and keep only about 2 inches.

I really do love Locks of Love, but I feel like I need something more personal than cutting off my hair and putting it into a bag into the mail. I need my donation to be a personal one. I want to meet these little girls and their family's. I want to be able to talk with them, laugh with them, tell stories about one another. I want to be friends with these little girls and have a personal relationship with them, and then SEE how they react when I can hand deliver my hair pieces to them. It is an emotional thing to cut your hair, just like it is an emotional thing  receiving the finished hair piece.

If there is anyone who knows of a few special little girls that are in need of a wig, please email me at

PLEASE PASS THIS BLOG POST ALONG! You never know who it may reach that has been wishing for hair. I want to find these little girls BEFORE Christmas and give them the gift of getting hair soon :)

Thank you for helping on my journey to changes lives.

Chicken Soup

Recently I got sick and was down and out for over a week. I have never had such a terrible stomach bug ever, and then I began to hear rumors about something weird going around and figured it was time to get out the pot and make myself some home made chicken soup. I thought I would give you a little easy way to make some healthy and hearty soup of your own.

I have a garden in the back yard that had a lot of the veggies I was going to use, and for the ingredients I did not have I went to a local farm that sets up a tent and bought the rest of my ingredients there. As for the chicken, I bought an organic fed chicken from the local market and used that for all my broth and chicken pieces that went into the soup.

I started the pot with nothing in it and began to add the veggies in to brown them and get a nice sear and crisp on them before I added water and let them cook. I added the corn, onion, garlic, and celery and let that all begin to simmer and brown and start the flavoring of the soup. Once I was happy with the light browning I began to add two cups of water at a time. I cut up the potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli and added that to the water that has began to boil and smell good.

In another pot I cook the chicken with nothing but water and add a little salt. Once the chicken is fully cooked I take it out of the pot and let it cool down a moment while I add the chicken water to the veggies that are already started and that starts the chicken flavoring process. Then start breaking down the chicken and adding the pieces into the soup. Once all the chicken is added, add more water if needed and set on low to simmer for about an hour to let all the veggies cook and not be hard to eat.

After that hour of simmering I say try it out and see what you think. Season to taste is best because adding too much salt or pepper can throw off your hearty chicken soup flavor. Enjoy!

Relaxation Wine Time

I have yet to find what I would call the "perfect" fit of wine for myself to enjoy with meals and with family and friends while celebrating or just wanting to hang out and relax. There are white wine, red wine, sweet wine, dry wine, light wine, bold wine, aged wine, not aged wine, and then there are wines that come from different country's made from different types of grapes and I am sure the list could just keep going and going on what makes each and every wine different and unique in its own color, taste, and smell.

At you get a first hand look at all the detailed break down of  "wine" types, regions of  where they get the types of wine from, and even what types of wine go good with with kinds of food, and then purchase the wine(s) of you choosing. Along with offering a huge selection of wine including a line of "green" wine, has gift baskets, corporate gifts, a wine club, and many more great features that you will have to go and check out for yourself.

For more information go to and see what delightful wine(s) and gifts you might enjoy and want to try. Make sure you check out and how "wines going green" and becoming more sustainable and organic.

Being “green” and living environmentally friendly can sometimes be very difficult nowadays, especially with a background being in the public eye. But, since finding Origins organic makeup, I truly have found it much easier to be eco-friendly.

And all the products are organic, all natural, and better for your skin and over-all health. Everything from the face scrubs and lip balms, to hair products and body scrubs leave me feeling refreshed, clean, and feeling good knowing I am doing the environment a good thing by using these products.

When I am out in the spot light and doing my work in the public eye, I want to be an example of what you can do to be eco-friendly. With the help of ORIGINS, I have become a better eco-friendly model. I have very sensitive skin, and these products have allowed me to look and feel great, inside and out. Watermelon-whale Fun

When a little family gathering is coming, or a birthday party, or even just a BBQ that you want to make something a little different and twice as fun as normal, then here is something that my sister Angel, and I   did this past week for a lunch that my was going on at a business lunch-in.

My mom had this book about creative things to create and this just happened to be one of them. We thought it was cute and totally a summer food to enjoy while it has been hot. I am sure you could go online and look up ways to create the watermelon-whale and also many other ideas I am sure.

We had to trace the outside of the whole watermelon with a pen and then went back over the line with the end of a fork to make the line visible enough to then cut out with melon into the whale shape with a knife. In this watermelon-whale we have taken a melon-baller and balled watermelon and cantaloupe, added blueberries and then put the grapes around the outside of the whale on the tray so they would not turn brown from being picked off the vine and cut in half.

You can use any fruit you would like to use and I would even consider getting a recipe for making home-made whipping cream to add as a yummy topping to your watermelon-whale fruit salad.

Go Further Ford 2012

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Go Further Ford trend conference in the end of June and was more than surprised and pleased with the information I walked away learning and understanding. I have such an excitement about the things that Ford Motors are doing in their company to help make a more efficient, Eco-Friendly, and “green.”
Over the 3 day trend conference we heard from experts about Urbanization, Design, Technology, and Eco-Psychology. We heard from Bill Ford himself, the proud great grandson of Henry Ford, about why he has decided to take Ford Motor in the direction it is going in to be more sustainable in the long term of the company. We heard from actor Adrian Grenier, Co-founder of, fashion designer and winner of Project Runway, Christian Siriano, and Ari S. Goldberg CEO of StyleCaster + Co-Founder of Sociocast, along with many other expert panelists about the impact of choosing a sustainable vehicle, product, and brand.
Along with the expert panelists, the attendees of the trend conference were allowed to test drive some of the new Ford cars; the Ford Focus, Ford Expedition, and even the Ford Mustangs on the actual test track used by Ford Motor in Motor City, MI.
I am proud to call myself a Ford Motors supporter and fan. 85% of each and every vehicle is recyclable. That is more than any other automotive maker out there. Time to give the leader in technology, sustainability, and eco-awareness the recognition they deserve for all this hard work. Go Ford Motor!

Eco Friendly Plus Sleeping Green!

It’s important for me as the Green Travel Girl to make the best choices when it comes to where I travel and what I want to see and show you, my audience. Everything from the hotel I choose, to the air I breathe and food I eat. It all has to be the greenest I can possibly find. There is a lot things happening to our earth that we can only relate to the chemicals and fumes in the masses we subject our environment to, and in the ways we choose to live our lives. And for me, there is nothing like laying my head my down at night after a hard days’ work of promoting eco-friendliness.
Many hotels and resorts around the globe are taking this crisis of our environmental issues seriously and have been going green for the past six years. Amongst one of the big-names hotel chains doing great eco-friendly things in their hotels is the Hyatt hotel. With 478 hotels in 45 countries, the Hyatt is doing it big and doing it in a green way. The have what they call the “green team,” and that teams job is to ensure they are keeping the environment as clean as they can and the hotel as green as it can be. From the heating, lighting, food, water, and even laundry soap is eco-friendly.
Not only does the Hyatt chain have a superb line of eco-friendly hotels, but they have won numerous awards for doing so. Anything from being voted at one of the “Top 75 Hotels Worldwide,” to an “Environmental Achievement Award,” to having the “Green Lodging Michigan Steward certification from the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth in 2010.” The Hyatt Hotel and Resort chain is making sure they can offer a single person, a family, and even the businessman have a great and green stay.
I would recommend checking out the Hyatt website, so you can check it out for yourself and see what you think. I, Green Travel Girl, am sold 100% and will be staying in one soon.
